Medicinal and cosmetic plant production is most successfully done in controlled environment agriculture (CEA) for various reasons. It allows for the consistent production of high-quality crops, reduces the risk of contamination, and allows for a more efficient use of resources, such as water and fertilizer. CEA - Controlled Environment Agriculture

The urgency of a timely rethink in food production is underlined, among other things, by a recent report commissioned by the German government as part of its Future Agriculture Mission. According to this report, agriculture in Germany alone causes ecological damage amounting to 90 billion euros every year. Influenced by climate change, crop failures, supply chain bottlenecks, increased settlement as well as the increase in traffic areas.

The future topic Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) offers sustainable solutions for a diversified food system. In a controlled environment, plant growth is optimized, taking into account important parameters such as air and soil temperature, humidity and light, and the influence of pests and diseases is reduced. The aim is to maximize yield with minimal energy input using space-saving cultivation systems for predictable harvest planning, trouble-free supply chains, improved waste balance and minimization of high greenhouse gas emissions.
