Aquaculture in vertical farming

Medizinische Pflanzenproduktion im Vertical Farming

Integration of fish farming and plant cultivation

The combination of aquaculture and hydroponics in vertical farming, also known as aquaponics, creates a symbiotic system in which fish and plants thrive together in a closed-loop system. The excrement of the fish provides valuable nutrients for the plants, while the plants filter the water and feed it back into the fish tanks.

Ecological and economic advantages

Aquaponic systems are characterised by high resource efficiency and sustainability. Water consumption is significantly reduced compared to traditional cultivation methods and the use of synthetic fertilisers is eliminated. In addition, modular systems enable flexible scaling that is suitable for both urban and rural environments.
